Boooooooya! Another amazing Crooked Disco yall. Thanks to everyone who came out. We thought Memorial Day weekend was gonna be a tough one but seems like everyone was in town ready to get down…
Shouts to DJ Eleven, Mr. Andersonic, Nick Hook and South Rakkas for making this night amazing. They did there thang and I never seen so many people on the stage dancing that long. Ha it was pretty damn crazy!!!
As summer winds down it’s time to get back to our favorite monthly dance party, Crooked Disco. We’re closing out the summer with some serious heat as DJ Eleven of the Rub tears up the dancefloor with his bag of remixed, re-edited jams. Plus, we’ve got Nick Hook from Sports on the 1s and 2s and if anyone was at the last loft party we spun with him you know that its straight indie electro bangers all night. And Mr Andersonic is back from Paris with a live set of booty breaks to get you bouncing.
And if that wasn’t enough we’ve got special guests the South Rakkas Crew with dancehall fire on the tables late night! SRC gave the world Riddims like: Clappas, Red Alert, Bionic Ras, Chinkuzi, etc. They have produced Dancehall music’s biggest artists including Beenie Man, Elephant Man, Bounty Killer, Capleton, Lady Saw, Mr. Vegas, Ce’Cile, Mr. Easy, Sizzla, T.O.K., and the list goes on. They have become known as Dancehall’s most innovative producers, bringing a fresh new sound which the top European DJ’s have titled Electro-Dancehall. Dow Jones has another alias, “King of the cut,” given to him by some of Jamaica’s biggest producers, for South Rakka’s ability to ‘chop up’, and rearrange songs creating new and exciting mixes.
With the Crooked Disco DJs dropping electro, baltimore club, house classics, disco jams and other assorted banger. Plus an open bar to kick it off and just $5 all night on the RSVP list. Let’s close this summer out proper. 21+ at the new Public Assembly (old Galapagos space)
Big thanks to everyone who made it to the BBQ on Saturday. If was an awesome chill day despite a stormy start. And big thanks to everyone who kicked it ’til sunrise at the afterparty in the Gowanus (pics soon, I hope).
This Saturday we’re doing a drive by at good old Galapagos Public Assembly to throw down with DJ Emagine at the McCarren Pool afterparty. there’s 2 for 1s, its free to get in, and it all goes down at 8… see ya there!
Crooked Disco is getting out of the dark, dank club this month with a proper back yard jam at Hope Lounge. DJs Morsy and Kestar be playing sun-shiny disco, funky breaks, and assorted BBQ jams along with our boys Witnes and Lil Tiger. That’s right, it’s Brooklyn vs. Texas for ya. There’ll be food on the grill (with a special Texas burger and vegan options) along with longhorn shots, Micheladas, and a special, spiced-up, tex-mex Margarita cocktail (amazing!) for you to get down with. Plus, photographer Texas will be snapping shots all afternoon! Good vibes all day long! Check the comments for directions and map.
hot off finishing that Crooked Disco mixtape with Morsy, I wanted to put together some breakbeat stuff that I’ve been really into as of late (or since I was an 18 year old raver) so here it is in time for those dog days of summer… justamixtape.
This is the first one I’ve put together in years (at least, that I was willing share with the public) so give it some ears and let me know what you think. You can download it here:
If you wanna grab a preview, you can head over to my MySpace page and give it a listen. Be my friend while you’re there, will ya, I old have a handful right now. Tracklisting in the comments.
Way too long in the making, Morsy and I finally sat down to bang out a mixtape for y’all. Its a nice party rock kicking off with some disco and then getting into some fidgety electro tunes we’re feelin’ at the moment before closing out with some exclusive cuts from DJ Morsy. With tracks from some of our favorites like AC Slater, Funkasaurus, Hercules & Love Affair, Ron Carrol, Juan Mclean, Escort, Crookers, Stupid Fresh and more, it’s sure to please. We’ll be giving out free copies at Saturday’s party but if you can’t wait you can cop your own copy now by clicking here.
We’re celebrating our mixtape release at Crooked Disco this month with more DJs, more lights, and more giveaways than ever! We’re taking over both rooms of Galapagos tonight with the city’s best electro, nastiest fidget, heaviest bassline, and downright most infectious disco. Plus, we’re giving out free mixtapes to the first 100 through the door and there’s an open bar to kick it off from 10-11!
In the front of the house we’ve got those Crooked Disco boys, DJ Morsy & Kestar, showcasing their unique blend of cosmic disco, hip-hop infused wobbly house, and bassline electro goodness. Their joined by Denny le Nimh of the always-poppin Ruff Club to bring some of that LES electro-sleeze to the table. Plus, the boys from Even Further bring some figdet house madness to the floor.
In the back, things get downright nasty as BK wonderkid, Dre Skull (Vicious Pop) takes the decks along with Jubilee (Trash Menagerie, Modular Records) and Nick the V (Mad Decent) for bass-heavy bangers all night.
So here we go again with another one of those midweek ragers so you can stumble into your summer Friday’s all hung over and blame it on us. Tonight we take on the upstairs dancefloor at LeRoyale along with Roc One of the bangers. The party itself is pretty all over the map and - being the schitzophrenic DJs we are - that’s the way we like it. Besides our mixed bag of assorted house genres from disco to fidgit (and breaks!) Roc will def. have the dance floor from moving from a more glam (and maybe some hip hop?) point of view. And def. peep our boy Witness on the downstairs tables. A recent transplant from the hipster-club scene in Houston, he’s bringing a fresh point of view on those same ol’ jams. Kinetica’s own JAD rounds it out with what I assume is a darker, tech side to electro but you’ll just have to come out and see.
LeRoyale is the majorly-renovated Luke & Leroy space and home the old Bugjuice party I used to do with Joey from The Taste Crew so I’m stoked to be back there and I hope the disco ball is still spinnin. Free all night so stop by and say what’s up!
We’re stoked to be throwing a little Crooked Disco afterparty this friday after the bands at the weekly Rock and a Hard Place. we’re spinning all that wobbly electro, fidgety house, club bangers, and assorted guilty pleasures you’ve come to love as well as some choice tunes from the more glam side of the spectrum that rarely make it into our sets. It kicks off (for us at least) at midnight and we’re going until last call.
Plus, if you get there early there is free entry (before 11), an open bar (9-10), and four rock bands playing to keep you entertained. Or, you can just show up after midnight once your pre-game is sorted and ready to get, get down. Mention “Crooked Disco” at the door for $5 admission all night. Sorry, 21+
