MP3: Charly Greane

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

Do you remember the spitz at the bottom of the class, the guy who left you the high notes and kept good the meufs? Bah it is of return. And before your girlfriend does not wonder whether you know this young rappor of Bordeaux about which his preferred magazine speaks this week, I advise you to learn some a little more on CHARLY GREANE. (thanks for the sweet translation Babelfish)

What can I tell you about Charly Greane… its sort of like a a hybrid of west coast hip hop, booty bass and house beats. That sounds like it makes no sense but leave it to a man from Bordeaux, France to bring it all together in a big ole’ party time vibe. Check the vid above for Gossip Girl, the debut off his debut EP, as well as the two sweet remixes below from Low Club and Ymee. And be sure to catch his US Debut Saturday at our Play Date party!

Reading Rainbow R.I.P. featuring Run DMC

Friday, August 28th, 2009

It’s official kids, after 26 years on the air, Reading Rainbow is being canceled due to a “shift in the philosophy of educational television programming.” Aparently, while the show got me stoked to hit the book-mobile every week it did not each me when to use “its” versus “it’s” (a skill I, sadly, still have not mastered.) There’s more on that here but the news reminded me of this fond childhood memory of Run DMC kickin’ rhymes about getting to sleep on time and reading books… a perfect example of why this was an awesome show.

VIDEO: Civilization by Marco Brambilla

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

Italian born video artist Marco Brambilla (who also created the Wesley Snipes sci-fi amazingness that is Demolition Man) created loop for the newly opened Standard Hotel in NYC (which looks crazy gloomy on their webcam today) and is and is probably the coolest hotel art I’ve seen in a while. Standard, let’s have a party… I’m feelin’ what you’re feelin!

Ashley Beedle & Horace Andy: Live at La Bellevilloise, Paris, France

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

I’ve been diggin’ this little slice of wonderful that Ashley Beedle and Horace Andy put together a while ago. Its a bit classic reggae, and bit downtempo house, and one fine collaboration. This viddy brings it all together real nicely in a rare live performance from Paris.
