Les Paul passed today at the proper age of 94. Inventor of the electric guitar (yes, the first one), Les has had an overwhelming influence on American music. He played along contemporaries such as Frank Sinatra, Sam Cook, and Bing Crosby as well as putting forth several albums with his Les Paul Trio and wife Mary Ford.
Les was rock and roll through and through, but he was also a key element the American Songbook and jazz movements. He held a long-standing residency here in NYC at the Iridium until very recently and will be sadly, sadly missed as one of America’s greatest musicians.
