Woohoo! It’s Play Date time again. Fresh off our amazing Halloween party (thanks again, see photos below) we’re getting down with our montly free-for-all at Le Poisson Rouge. Expect the usual mixed up back of everything from Funky breaks to indie electro to Dirty Dutch house with lots of dancetastic gems inbetween. Also, this month we’re donating a portion of our proceeds to Movember, the awesome monthly ’stach-growing fundraiser for cancer research. You can learn all about that here and if you want to make a donation go here. Else, buy an extra drink for a good cause!
Plus, this month’s Play Date is the debut of the newest member of the Nanachill family, DJ Lani Love, bringing her love for electro to the early night dancefloor. It’s always super fun so don’t forget to RSVP and see you Saturday!

Crooked Disco’s really hard to explain sometimes… its house, its breakbeat, its dub reggae, its electro… its really whatever we’re feeling at the time. So I wanted to start doing this sort of “Roots of Crooked Disco” series to sort of explain where it all came from. I can’t think of a better way to kick it off with the Charles Fields (aka Charles Feelgood aka DJ Feelgood) side of Fever Vol. 1.
The Fever parties beginning in 1992 are known up and down the east coast as landmark events introducing the masses to electronic dance music. During the course of their seven year run, hosts Scott Henry and Charles Fields produced 8 mix tapes that were distributed to the first 100 people at on select nights. This tape is DJ Feelgood’s side of the very first one handed out in Fall of 1994!
This is some classic house not in the way it relates back to disco but in the way house and techno used to be married together. It’s hard hitting, eclectic, and a totally infectious 45 minutes of classic samples, uplifting rhythms and mixed up beats. I still play a lot of these songs - in one form or another - today. “In the beginning there was jack…”
Feeling the rugged tunes after an awesome night at Lickwud this past weekend and this is one that’s been in constant rotation all week. Killer tear out updated for 2009 from some serious breakbeat masterminds aka CTRL Z, The Freestylers, and MC Navigator… Look for it this weekend if the crowd gets rowdy enough!
Crazy fun time for halloween last weekend… thanks for everyone who came out. We’re a bit slow on pics for this one but here they are!

We couldn’t let Halloween go by without another Crooked Disco Anniversary Celebration aka our Holla Ween party! Celebrate the 2 year anniversary of our monthly get down for disco, breaks, classic house, good hip hop, electro, and Baltimore club with Holla-Ween III featuring live performances by the Beatards (Mixtape Riot), a special guest DJ sets from Proper Villains (Southern Fried / Nightshifters), and, of course, we’ll be on the decks all night! We’ve got free admission all night long making it a definite tonight. Check out pictures from last year’s madness here.

Moby gets super geeky on his drum machines and helps us remember that electronic music exists outside of Ableton…
Amazing things happen when you dig through the old crates. Classic!
An absolute amazing experience we had at the last PLAY DATE. Big shout outs to the Japanese, Korean and UK people for the non stop dancing… Also big thanks to our photographer Kirill for really capturing the moment…

We’re kicking it off at 10pm with cheap drinks until midnight and we’ll be on the decks to last call and beyond. 21+ and see you there!
